Treatment Plan for Ritalin Addiction

A Ritalin treatment program has to be implemented in order to successfully overcome the addiction. There is a team of sorts that is created to fight this battle. It includes loved ones, a psychiatric counselor, a Ritalin addiction detox center and a support group. Success depends on all four aspects functioning as one team.

  • Seek your loved ones – The role in healing that your friends and family can participate in is significant. When recovery and healing becomes difficult, they can provide the inspiration to continue.
  • See a licensed therapist – A licensed therapist provides the personal interaction that can help beat the Ritalin addiction and develop a tailored rehab plan. They will also aid in the admission to a Ritalin treatment facility.
  • Search for a Ritalin treatment facility – A Ritalin detox program will assist with working through any physical or psychological withdrawal symptoms that arise. They will use various treatment strategies to tackle any other co-occurring addictions.
  • Support group – A support group can provide accountability and guidance which is important. They will provide assistance when facing the trials of preventing a relapse. In order to prevent a relapse, the group can offer much needed help. The support group is essential in maintaining abstinence.

Ritalin Treatment Levels

The types of treatment for dealing with a Ritalin addiction are numerous, and they differ in acuteness. The level and intensity of treatment will be dependent on how severe the addiction is, and it will be influenced by any other co-occurring disorders or drug abuse. It is imperative that a Ritalin rehab facility be contacted to help in the recovery because they can offer the following levels of treatment:

  • Inpatient / Hospital Treatment – Continuum of care for 24 hours per day in a hospital setting. This is for when a patient requires immediate medical stability in a hospital environment before being able to begin or continue recovery.
  • Residential Treatment Center (RTC) – This kind of facility provides the patient an extended overnight stay for 30 to 90 days. Residential living care directs the attention on the Ritalin addiction, but also deals with any co-occurring disorders or drug dependence.
  • Partial Hospitalization Level of Care (PHP) – This level of care is conducted in a residential center or hospital and incorporates group and individual therapies. This curriculum can run 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, but sessions are commonly held five days a week in the mornings or afternoons.
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment Level (IOP) – This level of outpatient care provides intense assistance and individual services but does not use detoxification. The patient’s daily routines can sometimes be maintained since sessions are conducted in the mornings or afternoons.
  • Outpatient Level of Care – This level of outpatient care is much like an IOP but not as intense. The patient has fewer limitations placed on them but still include individualized treatment and group sessions.
  • Groups of Support – Support groups provide supervision and direction to prevent relapse. They give the patient acceptance without condemnation as the members have all walked the same road.

Types of Therapy for Ritalin Addiction Treatment

Unfortunately, there are not any pharmacological treatments that can be used for a Ritalin addiction, but there are multiple psychological based healing techniques. A Ritalin rehabilitation program will implement various combinations of behavior modification therapies that focus on the mental components of the dependency. Some of the therapies include:

  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) – This type of therapy focuses on the interpersonal relations and societal functions using an encouraging and short-term psychotherapy while trying to help the patient find more effective ways of handling current crisis’ and concerns. IPT has four main elements which are relationship shortcomings, unresolved grief, role disputes, and role changes.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – This type of therapy deals with maladaptive patterns of thought in an effort to influence the patient’s conduct with a more constructive approach. This also allows negative coping skills to be replaced with positive coping skills.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – This type of therapy incorporates CBT and IPT behavioral therapies the patient can learn to control their emotions. Mindful awareness and stress management elements are merged into this treatment.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – This type of cognitive behavioral treatment uses mindfulness and acceptance approaches mixed in multiple ways with strategies of commitment and behavior-change. This should enhance the patient’s emotional and mental flexibility.
  • Supportive Programs – This includes groups such as the 12 step model similar to Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Family therapy, group therapy, support groups, etc. are some additional examples of supportive programs.

There are a multitude of tools available to help you beat a Ritalin addiction. There are also people who love you that will help you get to sobriety. Regain control of your life.
