Do You or Someone You Love Need Prozac Treatment?

Prozac may not be considered as addictive, but people can still develop a Prozac addiction. Someone addicted to Prozac, chemically known as fluoxetine, can still have some physical withdrawal symptoms and also show signs of psychological withdrawal. A person with a Prozac dependency will display several signs and symptoms of abuse. Some Prozac addiction signs are dizziness, irritability, headaches, muscle aches, nausea, confused thinking, moodiness, insomnia and depression. These signs can help determine if the user needs to go to a Prozac treatment center.

Treatment Plan for Prozac Addiction

A plan can be created to help defeat a Prozac addiction. This will require the services of a trained counselor and a Prozac addiction treatment program. Loved ones will play an integral role in recovery, as will a support group. These four components will encompass the Prozac treatment team.

  • Get assistance from loved ones – Ask for help by asking loved ones. This is one of the first steps in beating fluoxetine abuse.
  • Seek out a licensed therapist – An individualized Prozac treatment program needs to be created. A therapist can make one for you. The counselor will also help find a Prozac rehabilitation center.
  • Find a Prozac treatment program – A Prozac detoxification center will help in dealing with any withdrawal symptoms that may be experienced. They can provide the tools need to deal with sobriety.
  • Locate a support group – A Prozac support group will be advantageous in maintaining abstinence. This group will help give advice on how to deal with the traps in relapsing into a Prozac addiction.

Prozac Abuse Treatment Levels

Beating a Prozac addiction will be quite difficult in and of itself, but often, there are other serious disorders such as eating disorders, mood disorders, or additional substance abuse that co-occur in addition to a Prozac dependency. Partial hospitalization programs, inpatient programs, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and residential treatment centers are available, but unless the addict requires immediate detox or serious co-occurring conditions are present, lower levels of care should be sought out first. The more commonly used treatment levels can include:

  • Outpatient care – Outpatient programs are comparable to IOPs but not as concentrated. Group sessions and personal fluoxetine treatment are still used but with fewer personal restrictions.
  • Support groups – Support groups are an important role in overcoming Prozac abuse. They provide accountability and support to the user. They can also give advice on how to deal with situations that can lead to a relapse.

Types of Therapy for Prozac Addiction Treatment

The main type of treatment for Prozac addiction can be some type of behavior modification. This will address the psychological addiction to Prozac. A reliable Prozac treatment facility will infuse multiple aspects of the therapies listed:

  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) – IPT concentrates on the interpersonal relations and social roles using a short-term supportive psychotherapy. IPT tries to help patients find better ways to handle and deal with existing issues or problems. There are four basic areas identified by IPT. They are unresolved grief, role disputes, role changes, and relationship shortcomings.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – DBT introduces mindful awareness and stress management components into the standard behavioral therapies like CBT.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT is a meth treatment program that deals with maladaptive thinking patterns in order to affect the patient’s behavior in a more encouraging manner. It also helps the patient replace negative coping skills with positive coping skills.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – ACT is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies combined in various ways with commitment and behavior-change strategies, to increase mental and emotional flexibility.
  • Supportive Programs – Programs like a 12 step program show great success in helping overcome addictions. It also includes support groups, group therapy, family therapy, etc.

The road to recovery for a Prozac addiction is arduous and requires commitment. The psychological and physical resources needed to discontinue abusing Prozac are extensive. It takes devotion, sacrifice, energy, patience, time and sacrifice to be successful in beating a Prozac dependency. Prozac treatment centers and addiction professionals are available to help the healing begin.
