Treatment Plan for an Inhalants Addiction

Any treatment plan from an inhalant addiction must be comprehensive.  Generally, it will consist of the support from friends and family, a qualified therapist, and an inhalant drug addiction center.  Each of these facets will serve as the core of a multi-faceted treatment plan that will be necessary for any adult, teenager or child seeking to overcome their addiction to inhalants.

  • Outpatient Treatment Care – This type of care is comparable to an Intensive Outpatient Program but less intense. It places fewer limits on the person but still implements both group and personal therapies.
  • Support Groups – Support groups fill a valuable role in overcoming an addiction. They provide accountability and understanding as the members have all gone through similar situations.

Types of Treatment for Inhalants Abuse

Physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms may be experienced as a result of abusing inhalants. In order to help minimize the effects experienced from withdrawal, medical professionals will typically monitor or supervise the individual in an acute care setting.  Once the person is physically stabilized from withdrawal symptoms, they can proceed to treat the root causes of the addiction. The primary focus of inhalation treatment will be on behavioral therapies in order to heal from underlying issues associated with the inhalant addiction.

Types of Therapy for Inhalants Addiction

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – This type of cognitive behavioral treatment uses mindfulness and acceptance approaches mixed in multiple ways with strategies of commitment and behavior-change. This should enhance the emotional and mental flexibility.
  • Supportive Programs – This type of therapy includes 12 step programs such as Marijuana Anonymous (MA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Family therapy, group therapy, support groups, etc. are some additional examples of supportive programs.
