Treatment for Hallucinogen Abuse and Addiction

Do You or Someone You Love Need Hallucinogen Treatment?

Hallucinogens are considered to be physically non-addictive, but there is a substantial chance that a psychological dependence will develop. There are signs and symptoms that are displayed when someone is "high" on hallucinogens. Someone on a hallucinogenic “trip” (a person’s senses and reality are altered) will have dilated pupils and an increased heart rate. They will display an extreme sense of euphoria or have intense paranoia. A person fighting a hallucinogen addiction can become confused, depressed, violent, speak incoherently and anxious. Their body will also become numb, incapable of feeling pain, possess exceptional strength and feel invincible. Some of the extended consequences will lead to irretrievable memory loss, schizophrenic-like behavior, brain damage, speech impairment and even death. If these symptoms are observed, then a hallucinogen treatment center needs to be contacted so the hallucinogen addiction can be treated.

It is extremely tough to quit a hallucinogen addiction. There is a determination that has to be implemented because the path to sobriety is exceptionally difficult. It is better to seek help as the assistance of loved ones, a licensed therapist, and a hallucinogen treatment facility are needed to beat the addiction.

Are you are fighting a hallucinogen addiction? Think back as to how much suffering has been caused by the addiction. How high a price has been paid by you or your loved ones? Healing is available. Admit that you have a problem and need help. Ask for support from your friends and family. Seek guidance from a professional psychologist and a hallucinogen rehab program. Maybe you know someone who is in the middle of a hallucinogen addiction. Gently approach them, let them know you care, and that you will help them get sober. Be mindful of how the person may respond, and keep in mind that the hallucinogen addiction is controlling their life. Explain how the abuse has affected you. Help them find the professional help that is needed to beat the addiction disease.

Treatment Plan for Hallucinogen Addiction

To overcome a hallucinogen addiction, a treatment plan should be created. The treatment plan will consist of four components, which are loved ones, a hallucinogen treatment program, a counselor, and a support group. The recovery process will rely greatly on all four functioning as one team.

  • Ask for help - Start with family and friends as they will be a vital part in overcoming an addiction. When recovery and healing becomes difficult, they can provide the inspiration to continue.
  • Find a therapist - A therapist who specializes in hallucinogen addiction will be able to create an individualized hallucinogen detox plan. They are also important in making the arrangements to enter a hallucinogen treatment facility.
  • Find a hallucinogen rehabilitation program - A hallucinogen treatment program will provide support in dealing with any physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms. It will also help in dealing with any additional co-occurring disorders or addictions.
  • Engage in support groups and ongoing therapy - Joining a support group will help contribute to the success of beating an addiction. A support group can offer supervision when facing relapse scenarios. They will play a key role in ongoing abstinence.

Treatment Levels

The treatment levels that can be utilized to overcome an addiction vary in type and intensity. The severity of the addiction and any co-occurring disorders will determine the initial rehabilitation level that should be pursued. Seeking a hallucinogen detox program to aid in this will be imperative. When hallucinogen addiction co-occurs with a serious mood disorder, other substance abuse, or eating disorders, inpatient or residential treatment centers may be sought out, but the most commonly used treatment levels are:

  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) - This type of outpatient program offers group and individual services and assistance, and it does not rely on detoxification. Sessions are conducted in the mornings or afternoons and permits the user to carry on some day to day behaviors.
  • Outpatient Care - Outpatient programs are similar to IOPs but not as concentrated. It places fewer limits on the person but still implements both group and personal therapies.
  • Support groups - Support groups fill a valuable role in overcoming hallucinogen abuse. They provide responsibility and mindfulness as all of the members have been through comparable circumstances.

Types of Therapy for Hallucinogen Addiction Treatment

There are several different types of therapy that can be used to help a person beat a hallucinogen addiction. Regularly, a combination of behavior modification therapies will be implemented by a hallucinogen treatment center. These therapies concentrate on the psychological issues of a hallucinogen addiction. Some of the treatments included are:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - CBT is a treatment therapy that addresses maladaptive thinking patterns in order to affect the patient’s behavior in a more positive manner. This also assists the patient in developing coping skills that replace negative skills with positive ones.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) - DBT uses the standard behavioral therapies like CBT and IPT for emotion regulation. The introduction of stress management and mindful awareness are key for this therapy.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) - IPT concentrates on the interpersonal relations and social roles using a short-term supportive psychotherapy, and it tries to help patients find better ways to handle and deal with existing issues or problems. The four main parts acknowledged by IPT are role changes, relationship shortcomings, unresolved grief, and role disputes.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - ACT is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies combined in various ways with commitment and behavior-change strategies. The emotional and mental flexibility should be increased.
  • Supportive Programs - These are programs like the 12 step program Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Other support structures like group therapy, support groups, family therapy, etc. are also part of this group.

The road to recovery is fraught with success and failure. This makes it quite difficult to stay committed to sobriety, but it can be accomplished. There is a great deal of sacrifice, perseverance and dedication that is required. If you or a loved one is fighting this horrible disease of addiction, then ask for help. Everyone involved in the addiction needs support. There are people and resources available, such as treatment facilities for hallucinogen addiction. You are worth the investment to take back control of your life.
