A person trying to quit an amphetamine addiction needs the assistance of others. A type of amphetamine addiction team needs to be created. It will consist of loved ones, a therapist, a support group and an amphetamine treatment program. All four of these components will play an important role in achieving sobriety.

  • Professional psychologist – A professional psychologist can help produce a custom-made amphetamine detox program. They will also aid in the admission to an amphetamine treatment facility.
  • Amphetamine addiction rehab facility – An amphetamine detox program will help increase the odds for successfully overcoming an amphetamine addiction. They will use various treatment strategies to tackle any other co-occurring addictions.
  • Join a support group – It is imperative that a support group is joined due to the insight and direction they can provide. In order to prevent a relapse, the group can offer much needed help. The support group is essential in maintaining abstinence.

Treatment Levels for Amphetamine Addiction

Treatment for an amphetamine addiction primarily addresses the psychological dependency. Even though there are no classic physical withdrawal symptoms, the psychological addition is still very difficult to defeat. In addition to an amphetamine addiction, other serious disorders such as eating disorders, mood disorders, or additional substance abuse often co-occur. The expertise of an amphetamine rehab center is needed to completely treat the dependency. While residential treatment centers, inpatient programs, and partial hospitalization programs are available, they are not needed to deal with an amphetamine addiction. The more commonly used treatment levels include:

  • Programs Focused on Intensive Outpatient Care (IOP) – This form of intensive outpatient treatment concentrates on personalized services and support while avoiding pharmacological detoxification. The patient’s daily routines can sometimes be maintained since sessions are conducted in the mornings or afternoons.
  • Outpatient Management Programs – While the outpatient program simulates an IOP, it is not as rigorous. The patient has fewer limitations placed on them but still include individualized treatment and group sessions.
  • Support Group Programs – The support made available by the group is crucial in beating a drug dependency. They give the patient acceptance without condemnation as the members have all walked the same road.

Types of Therapy for Amphetamine Treatment

Unfortunately, there are no pharmaceutical treatments for amphetamine addiction. This then leads to psychosomatic treatments to treat the psychological addiction. An amphetamine treatment center will implement several different therapy techniques in order to help the addict recover. A proven successful way to overcome an amphetamine addiction is to apply different modes of rehabilitation. The addiction detox program will join together various aspects of different behavioral therapies so the emotional and psychological needs of the user can be addressed.

  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) – This rehabilitation type pays attention to the interpersonal relationships and cultural roles using concise supportive analysis and works to assist patient’s to uncover better tools to address problems and issues that currently exist. IPT has four main elements which are relationship shortcomings, unresolved grief, role disputes, and role changes.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – This level of treatment works toward changing maladaptive thinking patterns so the patient can modify their behavior in a positive way. This also allows negative coping skills to be replaced with positive coping skills.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – This version of behavioral therapy  combines aspects of IBT and CBT behavioral therapy for emotion regulation. Mindful awareness and stress management elements are merged into this treatment.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – ACT is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy that implements commitment and behavior-change strategies by combining acceptance and mindfulness strategies in several different ways. This should enhance the patient’s emotional and mental flexibility.
  • Supportive Programs – This type of therapy includes 12 step programs such as Marijuana Anonymous (MA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Family therapy, group therapy, support groups, etc. are some additional examples of supportive programs

Even though amphetamines are not physically addictive, the psychological addiction is extremely difficult to break. You can get control of your life back. Admit there is an amphetamine addiction. This is the first step to recovery. Healing is available. It is going to be difficult, but the end of an addiction means life can be whole again.
